Messages on the LCD

Probable Cause

PAPER EMPTY The paper empty sensor detects that no recording paper is loaded.
COVER OPEN The cover sensor detects that the cover or the paper cassette cover is not closed, or the drum unit is not installed.
DOCUMENT JAM : Document jam The document length exceeds the limitation (400 or 90 cm). (Both the document front and rear sensors stay ON after the document has been fed by the registered length.) The document rear sensor detects no trailing edge of a document after the document has been fed by 400 cm. (The document rear sensor stays ON even after the document has been fed when the document front and rear sensors were OFF and ON, respectively.)
DOCUMENT JAM : Document loading error The document rear sensor detects no leading edge of a document within 10 seconds from the start of document loading operation. (The document rear sensor stays OFF even after the document has been fed when the document front sensor was ON.) The loaded document is too short. (Since the document is shorter than the distance between the document front and rear sensors, the document front sensor is turned OFF before the document rear sensor is turned ON.)
SCANNER ERROR In the scanning compensation data list, fifty percent or more of the white level data is faulty.
CLEAN UP SCANNER In the scanning compensation data list, less than fifty percent of the white level data is faulty.

CHANGE TONER

TONER EMPTY

The toner sensor has detected that there is no toner. If this message appears, recording is no longer possible.
CHANGE TONER The toner empty sensor has detected that there is not enough toner.
SET CARTRIDGE The toner sensor has detected that no toner cartridge is loaded.

CLEAN UP FILTER

PRESS STOP KEY

If the thermistor (temperature sensing device) in the unit detects a temperature of 60 degrees C, recording becomes impossible.  this message is displayed at 57 degrees C, but recording is still possible at that temperature.
MACHINE ERROR xx "XX" indicates an error code.
If only an alarm beep is heard without any message on the LCD when the equipment is powered up, the ROM or RAM will be defective.

Messages on the LCD

Probable Cause

SDH OPEN Single Document Handler switch detects the platen cover is open and the document sensor has detected a document.
UPPER UNIT OPEN The safety switch has detected the OFF state.
TONER EMPTY The toner concentration is still low after the forced toner supply sequence.
SUPPLYING TONER The machine is performing the forced toner sequence.

NO PAPER (with single cassette)

NO PAPER UPPER

                            (with dual cassette)

NO PAPER LOWER

Each PE (paper empty) sensor dectes an out-of-paper state.
PAPER JAM

=0 : detects the lack of paper supply from the lower paper    cassette.

=1 : detects the lack of paper supply from the upper paper cassette.

=2 : detects faulty paper feed.

=3 : detects faulty paper output.

DOCUMENT JAM Even after a lapse of 4.3 seconds after the document has started the transfer from the C.I.S. (contact image sensor), S2 sensor remains on.
NO DEVELOPER The developer unit is not detected in the base of the machine.  The controller detects it with the toner sensor.
NO DRUM The drum unit is not detected in the base of the machine.  The controller detects it by the connection to the charging corona.
CHECK DEVELOPER When the internal electronic counter reaches 50,000 counts, the controller displays this message.
CHANGE DEVELOPER When the internal electronic counter reaches 50,000 counts, and the toner sensor detects toner empty, the developer unit must be replaced.  After replacement, execute the initialization command.
CHECK DRUM When the internal electronic counter reaches 49,500 counts, the controller displays this message.
CHANGE DRUM When the internal electronic counter reaches 50,000 counts, the drum unit must be replaced.  After replacement, execute the drum initialization.
CHECK DEVE/DRUM If the developer unit and the drum unit have the same count this message will be displayed when the electronic counter reaches 50,000 counts.
INITIALIZE ERROR While initializing the developer unit, the controller cannot adjust the voltage to the toner sensor.
COOLING ADF If the thermistor (temperature sensing device) in the SDH detects an abnormal high temperature the controller stops the copying mode and allows the SHD to cool.

PLS CLEAN DRUM In either of the following cases, this message appears, prompting the user to clean the corona wire in the drum unit.
  • When the specified number of pages has been printed after the replacement of the drum unit.
  • When the corona wire emits an abnormal amount of ions.  This happens when the corona wire gets dirty, superimposing noise on the toner sensor signal.
